Vert-X provided the structural design for extensions to the Methodist Church building in Palmerston North, completed in December 2024. Vert-X worked closely with the architect through design and the builder through construction on this extension which created a new gathering area and extended foyer and overflow spaces. The original structure - concrete columns and steep roofs with exposed steel - had a distinct structural character and had been originally designed in the early 90s to emulate the original brick church on the site. The brief was to extend it so the new work tied in seamlessly while meeting current weathertightness standards the original predated. We carried the existing form through with precast concrete columns, steel portal frames, steel and timber roof purlins and a concrete slab on grade so that from the exterior the extension reads as a continuation of the original building.
