Vert-X is providing the structural design for the Pasifika Community Centre in Palmerston North for the Palmerston North City Council, with architect DGSE and builder Colspec. The project was proposed as a remodel of an existing building; we worked with DGSE on an alternative tender for a new build that could deliver better client outcomes cost-effectively. We designed the slab and foundations, the timber framing and the bracing, using standard timber framing throughout with structural steel only where spans required it, and worked with DGSE so the structure carries the form of a Pacific Island fale - the open, post-supported meeting house. The building is under construction.
