Vert-X is providing the structural design for a bespoke home at Kinloch, overlooking Lake Taupō, working with architect Darren Shadbolt of Team Architects (Palmerston North) and builder Kieran Ireland of IM Building. The house is under construction, due for completion in 2026.

The architecture is built around open living spaces, expansive windows to the lake, and a cantilevered roof projecting out toward the view. Together those left few solid walls to brace the house and put real demand on the structure all that openness and the cantilever had to be carried without the structure intruding on the spaces the design is built around.
We designed all the bracing, steel portal frames, and SED (specific engineering design) plywood bracing elements, along with over forty SED beams, a bespoke stair, and internal and external masonry feature walls. The structure was modelled in 3D in Microstran for the design and in Revit for the structural drawings. With so much riding on steel and so little on walls, we provided a full set of setout drawings for the structural steelwork -  sharing the 3D Revit models directly with the architect and working closely with the team so the steel could be coordinated and set out precisely before it reached site.
