Vert-X provided the structural design for the seismic strengthening and structural design for transformation of various existing timber storage buildings and offices into the new Hammer Hardware store in Foxton, completed early 2025 with architect and builder Caldow builders. The store occupies buildings built across several decades in concrete, steel, and timber, sitting at multiple ground floor levels - so the strengthening had to tie together structures that behave differently, on a very tight budget. We worked with what was already there: using the existing structure wherever it could do the job, improving connections and member restraints rather than replacing elements, and tying the separate buildings together so they act as one.
