Vert-X provided the seismic strengthening design for a well-known Palmerston North pub and eatery, completed December 2025 with PAK Design and builder Humphries Construction, taking the building to 67% NBS. The building had grown over decades from an original timber dwelling, so multiple strengthening systems were utilised in different areas depending on the original construction.  We used steel braced frames, portal frames and plywood shear walls designed to minimise loads on foundations then designed a fibre-reinforced floor poured under the existing timber floor - giving the building a stiff platform without excavating new footings beneath an occupied floor. A new restaurant is now up and running in the building with no external evidence of strengthening being done.
