Stylish Functional Community Housing

This community housing project not only makes a great design statement, but also provides 46 one and two-bedroom units across five separate blocks, two of which are three-storey apartment-style buildings.

Construction comprised typically timber framed walls, CLT timber suspended floors and a concrete slab on grade. Bracing throughout the structure utilised a combination of specific engineered plywood walls, GIB lined walls and isolated structural steel bracing elements.

Delivered on time, in spec - a great result for Kainga Ora, Isles Construction and the Vert-X team.

8400m2 House Building Factory

This 8400m2 new house building factory is stylish in design and construction and the new site for Presidential Buildings in Palmerston North.

Vert-X Ltd were the lead consultants on this complex project.

The factory has a clear span of 60m and 10m knee height, this new structure will allow Presidential buildings to construct 2 storey buildings entirely inside the factory ready to be trucked onto site.

This is a fantastic project for Vert-X, with a great future focused client and collaborative design and build team. This statement building will set the bar for stylish and functional factory design in the Manawatu region.

Statement Design Residential

Vert-X Ltd worked as the structural engineers alongside Emerge Architectural Design Ltd to create the design for this beautiful new home.

Some of the great architectural features required clever structural engineering including the feature piece cantilevered internal stairs supported on walls with schist cladding on both sides and the grand internal/external schist clad fire place. Vert-X designed these structural elements along with the overall bracing, raft floor and a number of structural steel beams and portals. This great design was matched by outstanding construction on site by builder Wayne Adam.

The house recently won the 2021 Resene New Home over $2 million category, Outdoor Living Excellence Award, and a Gold Award for a home in Palmerston North.

New School Build in Feilding

Vert-X Ltd worked as the structural engineers alongside Designgroup Stapleton Elliott to design this modern learning facility for Feilding High School.

The design layout required substantive clear internal spaces while being cost effective. A structural steel portal frame shell with steel purlins was designed for the exterior supported on a simple concrete slab. Bracing throughout was typically via plywood shear walls to minimise the structural steel requirements and for ease of construction.

The building is now nearing completion and looking great

Our goal - whether it’s a residential or commercial project is to find simple, economic solutions that look great and are practical to construct. We are experienced in the structural design of steel, concrete and engineered wood structures and utilise various computer software packages throughout the design phases of the project to create the optimal design.

Welcome to the Team

We were very happy to welcome Josh Tamblin to the team in 2023. Josh is thriving at Vert-X, with his skill set growing week by week. Really thrilled Josh has also enrolled with Te Pukenga to complete a New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil) - an initiative we strongly support at Vert-X and it is great to see Josh managing his studies while still achieving great results at work.

We are also pleased to have Richard Woodmass on board part time, as a contractor to assist with construction observation. Richard (Woody) has years of industry experience in the steel fabrication workshop and also from a structural design, draughting and construction observation perspective. Great to have you on the team Woody.

With the increasing amount of work in the Kapiti and Wellington regions, Matt Ralph has also joined the team as a part time contractor. Matt's many years in the industry, ranging from steel rigger to builder to civil design engineer make him a great asset for us on site. Welcome on board Matt.

Did you Know...

Did you know that the National Seismic Hazard Model is being updated.

The New Zealand National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) is a model that calculates the likelihood and strength of earthquake shaking occurring in different parts of New Zealand. The update work on this model is being led by GNS over 2020-2022. We are unsure what impact that will have on future design seismic loads for buildings but are keeping a watching brief.
