Stylish Functional Community Housing

This community housing project not only makes a great design statement, but also provides 46 one and two-bedroom units across five separate blocks, two of which are three-storey apartment-style buildings. 

Construction comprised typically timber framed walls, CLT timber suspended floors and a concrete slab on grade. Bracing throughout the structure utilised a combination of specific engineered plywood walls, GIB lined walls and isolated structural steel bracing elements.

Delivered on time, in spec - a great result for Kainga Ora, Isles Construction and the Vert-X team.

Low Rise Commercial 

This building comprised a two storey steel and concrete addition to the side of an older 1960’s building.

 

Vert-X Ltd were involved as the structural engineers for the project. The low stud height and relatively low seismic capacity of the existing building along with the developers desire for the downstairs tenancy to be occupied through the course of the construction works presented challenges for the design and construction team.

The new building structure comprised steel portal frames, composite steel/concrete first floor and precast panels walls and the new and existing buildings were tied together at first floor to create a seamless first floor space. Another great result for Isles Construction Ltd.

Statement Design Residential

Vert-X Ltd worked as the structural engineers alongside Emerge Architectural Design Ltd to create the design for this beautiful new home.

 

Some of the great architectural features required clever structural engineering including the feature piece cantilevered internal stairs supported on walls with schist cladding on both sides and the grand internal/external schist clad fire place. Vert-X designed these structural elements along with the overall bracing, raft floor and a number of structural steel beams and portals. This great design was matched by outstanding construction on site by builder Wayne Adam.

 

The house recently won the 2021 Resene New Home over $2 million category, Outdoor Living Excellence Award, and a Gold Award for a home in Palmerston North.

New School Build in Feilding

Vert-X Ltd worked as the structural engineers alongside Designgroup Stapleton Elliott to design this modern learning facility for Feilding High School.

 

The design layout required substantive clear internal spaces while being cost effective. A structural steel portal frame shell with steel purlins was designed for the exterior supported on a simple concrete slab. Bracing throughout was typically via plywood shear walls to minimise the structural steel requirements and for ease of construction.

 

The building is now nearing completion and  looking great

We are experienced in the structural design of steel, concrete and engineered wood structures and utilise various computer software packages throughout the design phases of the project to create the optimal design.

Did you Know...
 

Did you know that the National Seismic Hazard Model is being updated.  


The New Zealand National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) is a model that calculates the likelihood and strength of earthquake shaking occurring in different parts of New Zealand. The update work on this model is being led by GNS over 2020-2022. We are unsure what impact that will have on future design seismic loads for buildings but are keeping a watching brief.
